Private Pilot Eligibility Requirements

- At least 17 years of age
- Read, speak, write, and understand English
- Hold a U.S. student pilot, sport pilot, or recreational pilot certificate

- 3 takeoffs and landings to a full stop at a controlled airport
- 5 hours cross-country

FAR 61.107(b)Pre-Solo Requirements
FAR 61.87Knowledge Test
Before being authorized to conduct a solo flight, a student pilot must have demonstrated satisfactory aeronautical knowledge by completion of a knowledge test. Refer to ยง 61.87(b).
Flight Training
In accordance with ยง 61.87(c)(1), prior to conducting a solo flight, a student pilot must have received and logged flight training for the maneuvers and procedures that are appropriate to the make and model of aircraft to be flown.
Proficiency and Safety
Prior to conducting a solo flight, a student pilot must have demonstrated satisfactory proficiency and safety, as judged by an authorized instructor, on the maneuvers and procedures required by ยง 61.87 in the make and model of aircraft or similar make and model of aircraft to be flown.
Solo Requirements Checklist
- Pass pre-solo knowledge test
- Demonstrate proficiency in all required maneuvers
- Meet FAA English language standard
- Complete 3 full stop takeoffs and landings at a controlled airport
- Receive instructor endorsement
Solo Cross-Country Requirements
FAR 61.93Ground & Flight Training
- Received ground and flight training on cross-country maneuvers
- Training appropriate to the make and model of aircraft
Proficiency Demonstration
- Demonstrated cross-country proficiency
- Satisfactorily accomplished pre-solo flight maneuvers
Endorsements
- Instructor endorsement required
- Comply with any limitations included in endorsement
Practical Test Preparation
FAR 61.109(a)(4)Final Checkride Preparation
- 3 hours of flight training in preparation for the practical test
- Review all areas of operation from the ACS
- Ensure proficiency in all maneuvers
- Complete instructor endorsement for practical test
